Time:  7:00 AM–8:45 AM
Location:  Sands Expo and Convention Center − Palazzo Ballroom D

What does it take to build a smart city? The smart city of today and tomorrow requires multiple partners working together to overcome technical, bureaucratic and political obstacles. Carriers, network vendors and technology solutions providers all have a role to play in working with city governments to enable smart cities solutions. These solutions are designed to improve the quality of citizen’s lives and make city services run more efficiently, and include improving air and water quality, and making utilities, traffic management, public safety and wireless connectivity more intelligent and effective.

Yet working with municipal governments can be complex and daunting, and it seems clear that no single company can provide every end-to-end solution for a city’s needs, so collaboration will be required. Yet even that understates the challenges city governments and their wireless and technology partners face in deploying smart cities. Each partner, by themselves and working together, needs to navigate a maze of administrative and political hurdles and balance competing interests. How cities and their partners manage these challenges will go a long way to determining how many cities truly become smart cities.

This FierceWireless executive breakfast will delve into the following key areas:

  • What are the services that make a smart city?
  • What can wireless carriers, technology companies and cities do to improve connectivity and automation?
  • How do these companies work together?
  • What do city officials and managers need to do to ensure they can quickly and efficiently deploy technologies to make their cities smarter?
